Combatting uninsured drivers
Time to get tough on uninsured drivers
A study by moneysupermarket.com indicates that 62% of people think that motorists caught without valid car insurance should face tougher penalties. Currently uninsured drivers face having their vehicle seized, a minimum of 6 points on their licence and a £200 fine. The Motor Insurer's Bureau state that 500 uninsured veicles are seized in the UK each day. They estimate that an astonishing 1.7m people drove without car or van insurance in 2008. Heavily populated areas such as Greater London, Greater Manachester and Merseyside had the greatest number of uninsured vehicles. (Continues below).

Why drive without car insurance?
One possible reason for the large number of uninsured drivers could be the economic downturn where it is harder for people to find money to insure their cars. Surely however if you can't afford to have the insurance, then perhaps you shouldn't have a car. Another possible reason is that drivers are driving unaware that they need insurance. FOr example they may have borrowed a car and be unaware that they could take out a 1 day car insurance policy or a temporary car insurance policy. (Maybe we can help woith that one). Whatever the reason we think the message is clear. Don't take the risk.
