- According to the Motor Insurers' Bureau 1 in 5 people between the age of 17 and 20 drive with no car insurance. That's an estimated 250,000 people in the UK.
- The same report says 1 in 10 young drivers say they are unaware they need car insurance. - Come on, are young people really that ignorant - we think maybe they are telling porkies.
- Car insurance for male 17 year old drivers can be as high as 2 to 3000 pounds a year. Wow!
- Each year approximately 230,000 people in the UK are convicted of driving with no insurance. Hopefully you want be crashed in to by one of these idiots.
- Young drivers are 10 times more likely to be involved in a collision. Maybe those high premiums are justified after all.
- Government statistics show that one third of drivers killed or seriously injured on the roads was under 25. Scary statistic.
- The UK has one of the highest proportions of uninsured drivers in Europe, with around 5% of motorists not having a policy in place compared with 0.1% in Sweden and 0.2% in Germany.

- The Highway Agency also report that between 1st July 2008, and June 30th 2009, 43 motorists a day had to be rescued from motorways after running out of fuel. Not an insurance fact, but we couldn't believe it, so put it in anyway for you to be surprised about.
- The AA tell us that a nice view is a distraction for 75% of drivers. So if you want to minimise your chance of a collision looks like you have to drive in unattractive built up areas. Unless of course, they have 'nice views' walking around them, then you're in trouble.
- In the UK it has been a legal requirement since 1930 to have car insurance.
- As well as fully comprehensive insurance and third party insurance there is also the lesser known Road Traffic Act Only Insurance. It has a limit of £1,000,000 for damage to third party property, this is less than what you get with third party insurance.
- In 1998 a pilot program was trialed in Texas where driver received a discount for installing a GPS-based device that tracked driving behaviour. Policy holders were more concerned about paying for the GPS than privacy concerns.
- It is a little known fact that you can take out vehicle insurance for just one day. Had to get that one in.
